Garden Townhomes on the Park

Garden Townhomes on the Park

Citing a lack of neighborhood connectivity, a deficit of affordable housing and a need for improved recreation and open spaces, the City of University City joined with Washington University in St. Louis and the Parkview Gardens Association to initiate a long range partnership to facilitate the redevelopment and revitalization of the Parkview Gardens neighborhood. This LEED Platinum targeted project proposal serves as part of the redevelopment plan in the Parkview neighborhood, which aims at developing a progressive, ecologically-sound, energy-efficient townhouse prototype. Based on the careful study of the current zoning codes for the historical neighborhood, the design develops its elevation according to the rhythm of existing building facades while providing the future residents with a “green” living experience. It features a central lightwell, an optional interior garden in the living space and a roof garden for each unit as well. The proposal also articulates the technical details including the eco-friendly construction techniques and materials, energy efficient building systems, as well as fixtures and appliances employing Energy Star to achieve LEED Platinum certification.
